I agree with David’s Frum’s assessment of Donald’s post:
“That post is such a perfect crystallization of the Trump style – bombast and boast, all of it making Trump himself the center of a story that he had nothing whatsoever to do with.”
Donald must look with envy at Russia’s Red Square parade held every year, signifying victory in WWII. It’s about winning, about power, about an audacious display of a military might that can vanquish all foes. This is what Donald admires about war, and why he envies the dictators of the world.
Donald cares less about the casualties and consequences of war – the sacrifice, the suffering, the millions of lives lost or crippled forever.
And Donald never talks about the ideals that brought America into the two great wars of the 20th century. America did not enter those wars for conquest or power or territorial ambition. America entered those wars to defend American values – freedom from oppression, human rights, and opposition to tyranny.
Donald Trump does not mention values, because he has no values consistent with the American ideals this country was founded on. He scoffs at and attacks a free press that criticizes him. He defies the rule of law and a judiciary that will not bend to his will. He twists the Dept of Justice and the FBI to attack his enemies and protect his friends. He pardons wanton criminals and supporters to further his power. He dismisses federal watchdogs that may uncover his corruption. He undermines any and all institutions that might diminish his power. He enriches himself by selling governmental influence and favor.
Last week, the US Army confirmed there will be a military parade on President Trump’s birthday in June, as part of the celebrations around the Army’s 250th birthday. This will be an expensive affair, coming as his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), run by Elon Musk, has slashed federal government departments, personnel and programs, with thousands of workers losing their jobs, including many veterans.
Fuck you, Donald. I look forward to your exit from office. Hopefully, our country can survive your disgraceful reign.
