I was surprised in 2021 when 24 Republican congressmen, so beholden to their MAGA master and his BIG LIE, would not vote to honor the sacrifices of Capital Police for their heroic actions on Jan 6, 2021
Those cops protected lives that day, as a MAGA mob stormed the Capital to disrupt the certification of the presidential election
The mob battered cops with metal pipes, chains, poles and flags, fire extinguishers, chemical sprays, and tasers
Those cops protected the will of voters in a free and fair election, against a traitorous president who would do anything to cling to power
For three and a half hours Donald Trump sat on his ass and watched it all unfold on television, never lifting a finger to call off his mob; but in the middle of it, he did tweet “Mike Pence didn’t have the courage to do what should have been done…,” leading to fevered chants of “Hang Mike Pence” by the enraged mob
Now, four years later, on inauguration day of his second term, Trump pardoned all 1500 of those Jan 6 criminals, including Proud Boys and Oath Keepers convicted of seditious conspiracy and serving lengthy prison sentences
Based on the muted response by Republican lawmakers, never again let it be said the Republican Party is the party of law and order
The Republican Party now fully embraces political violence as an acceptable means to contest an election
Ronald Reagan once said that America’s peaceful transfer of power after elections is the singular most miraculous and wonderful aspect of our government, and the envy of the world
Sad day, today, for lovers of freedom, democracy, and the rule of law
I for one, will not forget what really happened on Jan 6, 2021, despite the constant lying about it by Donald Trump and his MAGA minions
