The River of Time

Time is flowing, flowing by

Ever flowing through my mind

What do I have left to do?

And how much more of time?

Last year was a week ago

A dollar now a dime

I used to roam around the world

Now travel in my mind

When I was young, I said to Dad

Seems Christmas never gets here

Dad said, son, enjoy your time

It goes faster every year

Now Christmas sneaks right up on me

Oops, it’s here again

Didn’t we have one just last month?

Nope

If not then, then when?

The rolodex of months rolls by

And years run into years

I turn around, a new decade

Comes kicking into gear

Tick tick clock, I hear you now

Counting down my days

I still ride bikes without a helmet

“Cause a player’s gotta play

Ocean swimming can give pause

Thinking of sharks below

But I float on my back and don’t fear attack

‘Cause goers got to go

One good thing of growing old

It settles down your mind

Thrashing slows to measured strokes

 Swimming the river of time
