Ukraine at the COP27 UN Climate Conference

Ukraine’s pavilion at COP27. It’s the first time Ukraine had a pavilion at a COP. Painted a somber grey to reflect the war back home, Ukraine wanted it to be a statement of defiance and hope to show Russia’s invasion will not prevent Kyiv thinking of tomorrow.

COP27 UN Climate Conference

Was in Egypt this year

At lovely Sharm el-Sheikh by the sea

Sharm el-Sheikh popular with Russian elites

Their visas still good there

Welcome to Russians still in the air

These UN climate conferences

Are normally colorful affairs

Groups and booths gay with hope

Singing climate prayers

But the Ukrainian booth was different

From others at the fair

Their bleak booth gray and shadows

Showed national despair

Ukraine states its climate piece

No progress possible without peace

The Russian war machine must cease

For progress in the world

Ukrainian activists were on hand too

Challenging Russian participants

“How can you talk about climate health

When you kill and bomb my people”

These Ukrainians are slick, I like their style

Don’t miss a chance to put Russia on trial

Ukrainian virtue displayed with a smile

And Russian lies don’t fly

In the last days of COP27

Kherson was freed from Russian occupation

The first major city captured by Russia

Now dancing liberation

The Ukrainian delegation took note

Big sweet watermelons are a Kherson brag

So they got a big melon and wrapped it in a flag

Set it on its own chair, celebrating Ukrainian ag

And scorning the Russian invaders
