Lucky to live in interesting times
I thought to myself back in ‘89
Soviet Union was collapsing
I was stationed at Rhein Main
In May of that year
Tiananmen Square protesters shined
Stood for freedom, until crushed
Don’t know if Tank Man survived
The Berlin Wall came down in November
And there was dancing in the streets
Checkpoint Charlie opened up wide
Hammers hitting` concrete
I’ve still got the plaque I made
With bits of wall I got back then
Wanted to preserve that feeling
World tipping good again
Interesting times again today
But world’s tilting a different way
American democracy in disarray
Dictators worldwide on display

While our country faces war
Americans should stand united in the face of crisis
Partisanship should stop at American shores
