What did I sign up for
When I stepped into this world
Surely there was paperwork
Before my flag unfurled
Well, I guess it doesn’t work that way
Nobody gets a choice
Just thrown onto this spinning orb
And told we should rejoice
Yep, clap your hands and raise your voice
And find some joy to squeeze
Pump yourself with false self-worth
While shaking at the knees
I’m deep diving in my head right now
Got too much time to think
Staring down this cold cruel world
And trying not to blink
Pandemic days are numbing
Like sinking in the sands
Movements getting sluggish
As we plod through strange new lands
Are my best days now behind me?
Ah, the joys of being young
But age brings greater peace of mind
As we watch the setting sun
Maybe some more travel
Will snap me into place
But airlines not appealing
With COVID in the chase
Oh, woe is me, my dreadful life
I walk a trail of tears
Yeah, I got steaks on the barbeque
But I’m getting low on beers
It’s a hard life wintering in Hawaii
Down to 64 degrees last night
Made it chilly for my morning swim
And my golf swing a little tight
OK, I’m feeling better now
Got it off my chest
I think I’ll make a salad
And give complaining a rest
