Second Amendment Blues

A militia group stands in front of the governor’s office after armed protesters occupied the Michigan State Capitol building during a vote to approve the extension of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s stay-at-home order in Lansing, Michigan.     Is this the type of  “well regulated Militia” the Framers’ had in mind when crafting the Second Amendment?    Credit…Seth Herald/Reuters

Republicans’ twisted obsession with the Second Amendment

Is hurtful during normal times

Gets in the way of reasonable gun legislation

As American killing fields continue to rise

But now the Republican Party is rotten with insurrectionists

So the gun fetish takes new light

Crazies now driving cross-country with guns

To join some political fight

And congressmen egg them on

Pose family photos with all their guns

Talk about using the Second Amendment

To keep those liberals on the run

Casual banter of killing fellow Americans

Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene thinks this is swell

Politics turning a fearful corner

Welcome to the gates of hell

The second amendment says:

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

Hmmm, a well regulated Militia, in service to the Country

As opposed to the recently indicted Oath Keepers militia

Who are traitors, to put it bluntly

In the Framers’ day, militias mustered to serve the State

Today they’re mostly white supremacist groups spewing hate

Doubtful the Framers would think today’s militias serve good purpose

Or are necessary to secure the State

They’d see today’s militias for what they are

Violent insurrectionists within our gates

The second amendment is not a suicide pact

Everybody doesn’t need to be packing heat

And you shouldn’t be able to carry any weapon you want

When you’re walking city streets

I can see Kyle Rittenhouse being cleared of murder charges

But what about the guy who bought the AR-15 for Kyle, who was a minor

And why was a minor in possession of a gun he can’t legally buy playing cross-state vigilante

If that shit’s all legal, than maybe some laws need to change

Look, I got guns

I’m for hunting and for sport

I’m for protecting households

But not terroristic retort

Like surrounding state offices with gun-toting rednecks

Because your candidate lost

A clear and present danger to democracy

Can’t you see the awful cost?

We need more restrictions on guns in this country

Lucky I live Hawaii, which is strict

I just hope the Supreme Court doesn’t fuck it up

With more Second Amendment bullshit

Rep Stevens on Rep Greene: There’s something going on with this lady, and it ain’t right.

Michigan Congresswoman Haley Stevens filed an official complaint with the U.S. Capitol Police over “dangerous threats” by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene for her remarks on using “Second Amendment rights.” Rep. Stevens says, “This is no longer acceptable to call on violence in a workplace.”
