Big Ben’s Final Bow

Second-to-last game of the year

Monday night, there at home

After 18 years playing for one team

Ben Roethlisberger stands alone

This season will be his last one

Ben announced earlier, with class

Two decades as Pittsburgh’s quarterback

But time moves on, so must Ben, alas

So the Steeler Nation has shown tonight

Black and gold will honor him

For standing tall for 18 years

Signs say:  Thank You #7, Big Ben

The Steelers are 7-7-1

With just two games left to go

If they win tonight, they’re still in the mix

To make the playoff show

In 18 years with Big Ben at the helm

Pittsburgh has never had a losing season

If Ben brings home the bacon tonight

It gives Canton one more reason

The game was hard fought, defense mostly ruled

Both sides played it tough

To secure this needed Pittsburgh win

Big Ben stood just tall enough

It was his last game in Pittsburgh

The victory was a delight

Ben was humble in his comments

The perfect tone this night

I was an Ohio kid, Ben said after the game

But been in Pittsburgh half my life

I’m so thankful to walk this hallowed field

One last time, with my children and my wife

My family and my friends are here

We see the jerseys and the signs

I appreciate my many blessings

And thank all of you for these times

One last lap around the stadium

Ben walked to thank the fans

I’m a Giants guy watching on TV

I tip my cap to the great Big Ben

After the game, Ben took a final walk around Heinz Field to thank the fans and soak up the glorious atmosphere one last time

Check out this audio clip below from a Cleveland Browns fan who remembers back to 2004, when the Browns passed on a chance to draft Ben Roethlisberger, and how it’s fitting for Ben’s last stand at Heinz Field to be a victory over the still-beleaguered Browns.
