I’m All Right

Yeah, I’ve done some stuff

Tell me you ain’t done stuff too

Ain’t too proud of everything

Walking in these shoes

I hurt some folks

And some hurt me

I wasn’t always right

Just trying to live free

I worked hard, played hard

Hung in bars at night

Chased booze, chased skirts

Seen my share of fights

I like to think I’ve done mostly good

Ain’t Christian, but got a code

Try to make the world a better place

It’s how my mother showed

And now you say in saintly talk

I ain’t as good as thee

Keep moving pal, I have no time

And will not bend the knee

I ain’t saying I lived the best

Plenty I could have done better

But don’t sit up there on Mt Pious heights

And shake your head in despair

You’ve got your fights and I’ve got mine

You’ve got your reasons, I’ve got my rhyme

You tell me about the end of times

I’m just living day to day

Yeah, time is ticking

I can hear the clock

Countdown to extinction

The bird is out of chocks

Don’t worry about me in the afterlife

I reckon I’ll do as well as most

But that won’t stop holier-than-thou types

With their humble bragging boasts

If you tell me I’m not heaven bound

You ain’t gonna ruin my day

I’ve got a Buddhist wife leading a good life

I’d rather be with her anyway

Like James McMurtry sang:

“When I’m all alone it’s all right
It isn’t going to wound my pride
If anyone can claim they’re all right
So can I”

Yep, so can I

Cheers
