Degrees of Love

I love you

I hate him

For others not one bit

Some folks only like their own

Others, care not a whit

Lots of range from love to hate

And adverbs addin’ style

The wonder of my love for some

While others raise my bile

The fierceness of my love

The deepness of my hate

Such flowery intensity

Emotional language play

But so much about a person

Comes from things beyond their control

Bad spin on the wheel of life

Wrong place, wrong time, wrong genetic code

Some people from a shitty family in a shitty place

Can still come up smelling like roses

But it takes tremendous work, and/or tremendous luck

On the other hand

Most people from happy families in happy places

Can come up smelling like roses

Unless they refuse to work, and/or have tremendous bad luck

The older I get, the more I regret

My harsh judgements on some folks

Everybody is fighting a different fight

I should respect their struggles more

So I’m changing my tune when I speak

Going peaceful way of doves

I will no longer talk of hate

Only degrees of love

So happy holidays everybody

I love you all

But don’t get too carefree

While true I love everybody

It’s still a matter of degrees
