August in South Dakota: Harley Fat Boys and Cyber Ninjas

It’s August in South Dakota

No time for us to fear

Time again for Sturgis

Motorcycles, drugs, and beer

You’d think there might be push back

Maybe scale back our sordid game

Last year was a COVID super- spreader

Maybe we should have some shame

Hello no, screw that Delta variant

We still ain’t learned a bit

We’ll crowd them bars and spit and fart

Like freedom-loving nitwits

We’ll vroom-vroom up and down the street

But mostly we’ll drink beer

Pandemic rages country-wide

But Sturgis has no fear

Only good thing this year

Is that COVID is so unglued

We jackasses likely won’t bring it home

To anyplace not yet screwed

But wait, there’s another game in state

Somebody trying to steal our bling

It’s up in the city of Sioux Falls

Damn it, August in South Dakota is our thing

But the great patriot Mike Lindell, the My Pillow Guy of fame

Is having a Cyber Symposium

Trying to horn in on our game

He’s got 37 terabytes of election data

Shows Donald still the king

Step aside you Harley Fat Boys

Let the Pillow Guy kiss the ring

Now I’ve seen beefs before

And this one could be bad

Drunken old coots on Harleys

Pillow fighting with conspiracy cads

I’m just glad we got the right girl

To referee this fight

Governor Kristi Noem, a tough-talking cowgirl

And leading Republican light

Now Kristi loves her Donald Trump

Hates masks and any restrictions

Wants Donald to tap her on the shoulder

For the 2024 election

Kristi loves them both

Harley Fat Boys and cyber teams

Should be a good month in South Dakota

For the Badlands COVID Queen

[South Dakota has 880,000 citizens scattered over the country’s 17th largest state, providing built-in social distancing. In theory, it should have a Covid death rate in the bottom 10, near fellow sparse states like Maine and Wyoming. Instead, there are now more than 1,900 dead — one in 470 South Dakotans — and one in eight have tested positive for Covid, the second-highest rate in the country.

The fact that Noem has emerged from a public-health disaster smelling so sweet has baffled some political observers. Actually, her moves make sense if you know that Noem is running for president. Sure, she’ll deny it, but combine the nonstop Fox appearances, the endless campaigning, and the presence of Trump whisperer Lewandowski and you have all the ingredients for a 2024 bid. (Unless Trump runs again. Then, she’d become a gender-balancing VP candidate.) Noem’s rigged-election/masks-suck/own-the-libs persona meshes perfectly with the 2021 Republican Party built on the twin pillars of Stop the Steal and “1/6 was a false-flag operation.” Noem is Trumpism with a cowgirl face. The fact that the media have hammered her for botching South Dakota’s Covid response does not matter even a little bit.

“The MAGA crowd does not give a fuck about that,” says former Republican strategist Tim Miller. “As long as Noem is making the right people angry, they’re happy, they don’t care about failures. She’s got the MAGA look.” Miller is a never-Trumper but respects the con.

“Look, she had one of the worst responses to coronavirus in the entire world,” Miller tells me. “And she’s wearing that as a positive! She’s going to troll and dunk on the wimps that cared about the fact that people were dying. MAGA World loves that.”]
