Years ago, on a Delta flight
I asked the lady next to me if she liked to party
She said, “Once yes, but now is time for different things”
In my mind her words still ring
Who’s gonna party tonight, this year, this life?
I was once a partier, now alcoholic, right?
Since most parties are alone at night
With Jim Beam and Netflix, bless my wife
Now retired, all is not clear
Dream is achieved
But which way from here
I always resisted longing for retirement
For that was longing to be old
Can’t take my eye off the road
But now I need a different sight
If you reach a dream, you must dream again, right?
Maybe I’ll stay up ‘til midnight
To see the New Year ring
Probably not, like usual
No need for fireworks bling
A boss once told me, “You’re skating on thin ice, and you’re skating alone”
I said, “Sounds good to me,” and skated on
